Farmers harvest honey in the fields around the ancient ruins of Ani. The ancient city is located at 1,340 meters with surrounding hills as high as 3,000 meters. WIth these varying high elevations, the beekeepers will harvest honey at different altitudes to get different flavors. The beekeepers live a semi-nomadic lifestyle, frequently moving their beehives to different fields. Near Ani, eastern Turkey.
Cows in Ani
Herders from the homes around Ani will often bring their cattle through the site to graze early in the morning before the site opens. The local farmers and herders have a close relationship to the ancient site as well as the land where it is located. Many of the herdes grew up in and around the site and their families have lived around Ani for generations. Ani, eastern Turkey.

Cows graze in front of the Church of the Holy Apostles. The church was built by the Pahlavuni dynasty, and during that time period was used by the Archbishops. Today all that remains is the shell of the lower part of the church. Cows often graze in and around the area. Ani, eastern Turkey.
